Upward Basketball & Cheerleading - 2012

Volunteers Needed

We started the Upward 2012 season in October and as I write this article, we have over 120 children registered to play.  And we are still receiving registrations!!  We had successful evaluations and are creating the 14 teams, 4 more than last season!!

Let me introduce the Upward Leadership team:

Carolinda Belville – Volunteer Commissioner
Caroline Funt – Scheduling Commissioner
Jen Hering – Celebration Commissioner
Karen Hopper – Prayer Commissioner
Gregg Kuck – Referee Commissioner
Scott McPhail – Assistant League Director
Marc Spurgeon – Coach Commissioner

Now we are looking for volunteers to make this season a success. You can locate this information on the Bethel website or on the Children’s Ministries bulletin board (near the FLC).  Please consider some of these positions described below.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jennie Whetstone (League Director), or anyone on the Upward Leadership Team.

Cheerleading Coach: If you have lots of spirit and love cheering on teams while they play, our Upward League needs you!!  Not a cheerleader?  Don’t worry, Upward provides you everything you need to lead a cheer squad, share life lessons and bring pep to our games! Time Commitment: 3 hrs a week + coaches dinner/training on December 8 at 6pm.

Basketball Coach or Assistant Coach:  Impact the lives of children and have fun while you volunteer! Use your talents to teach sport fundamentals as well as the value of sportsmanship, teamwork, integrity and respect for authority. You do not need to have a child in the league to serve as a coach.  Never coached before? Don’t worry, Upward Sports will provide you with all the resources necessary to teach the sport, share life lessons and coach your team.
Time Commitment: 3 hrs a week + coaches dinner/training on December 8 at 6pm.

Referees:  Did you play basketball or have a great understanding of the rules of the game?  If so, please use this gift to make an impact on children as they learn about teamwork, sportsmanship and respect for authority.  Never been a referee?  Don’t worry, we have great referees to help guide you along the way!! Time Commitment: 2 – 4 hrs on Saturdays + coaches dinner/training on December 8 at 6pm.

Concessions Director:  Have you worked at the concession stand in the past and enjoyed interacting with the kids?  We need a special person to organize the concession stand during Upward games, by purchasing the items, scheduling the    volunteers and ensuring proper set-up & clean-up of the kitchen and concession area.  Time Commitment: Varies, but at least 4 hrs on Saturdays + required shopping.

Game Day Volunteers:  We need friendly faces during the games to be GREETERS and provide assistance to the    families coming to Bethel during the season.  We need AUDIOVISUAL ASSISTANTS.  We also need a CLEAN-UP TEAM to get Bethel ready for Sunday morning workshop. Time Commitment: 2 – 4 hrs on Saturdays.
